
Kate Auty in conversation with Professor Lynette Russell
You are invited to join us for the book launch of O’Leary of the Underworld: The Untold Story of the Forrest River Massacre by Professor Kate Auty, published by La Trobe University Press, an imprint of Black Inc.
O’Leary of the Underworld delves into the brutal events that took place in the Kimberly during the 1920s, uncovering the injustices inflicted on the Oombulgurri people and exposing the prejudices entrenched within Australian settlement history.
Author Kate Auty will be present in conversation with Professor Lynette Russell, welcomed by Dr Michael Donovan and MC’d by Professor of Public Engagement, Clare Wright.
This event is supported by Eltham Bookshop with books available for signing. A light luncheon will be provided.
Professor Kate Auty is a Vice Chancellor’s Fellow at the University of Melbourne and Chair of Victoria’s Environment Protection Authority. She has formerly held appointments as a magistrate in Victoria and in the goldfields and western desert of Western Australia, establishing Aboriginal sentencing courts in consultation with Aboriginal people. Kate completed her PhD at La Trobe University.
Professor Lynette Russell is an Australian historian known for her work on Indigenous history, post-colonialism and representations of race, museum studies and popular culture. Lynette is currently the Director of Monash University’s Indigenous Studies Centre.
Dr Michael Donovan is an academic, researcher, Indigenous expert in pedagogy and curriculum development and Pro Vice-Chancellor Indigenous at La Trobe University.
Professor Clare Wright is an award-winning historian, author and broadcaster. She is currently Professor of History and Professor of Public Engagement at La Trobe University.
