Black Inc. is pleased to acquire world rights to a new anthology, We’ve Got This: Parenting with a Disability, to be published in 2022. 

The anthology will be edited by journalist and disability advocate Eliza Hull. Hull recently created a successful ABC podcast series, We’ve Got This, on parenting with a disability, which was one of Radio National’s and ABC Life’s most successful series of all time.

We’ve Got This: Parenting with a Disability will showcase a diverse range of parents with a disability sharing unique and compelling first-person stories. Including well-known parents with disabilities alongside fresh, new voices, the anthology will challenge stereotypes and educate, and ultimately be the go-to book for any disabled parent.

Hull says: ‘Five years ago I was pregnant with my daughter. Like most parents-to-be, I was both excited and nervous. But as a person with a physical disability, there were added complexities in the mix. Internally I was battling questions that were fraught with fear. Would I be able to parent with a disability? Would the pregnancy be too hard? Would people judge me? Could I manage? I was given a huge pile of parenting books. There were no mums like me in any of them. Yet in Australia, 18 per cent of households have a parent with a disability, so where were we?’ 

Publisher Kirstie Innes-Will called the anthology a ‘vital, vibrant and empowering anthology which Black Inc. is proud to be publishing in 2022’.
